Cheryl: I can't cry anymore
GORGEOUS CHERYL COLE has opened her heart about why she gave her cheating husband ASHLEY COLE a second chance - but has admitted she can’t control his behaviour in the future.
The Girls Aloud star, 25, has spoken for the first time about her decision to take Chelsea footballer Ashley, 27, back after it was revealed that he had cheated on her with hairdresser Aimee Walton, 22, earlier this year.
She admits that she hit the “lowest of the lows” after the Chelsea star had the fling.
In an extract from the band's upcoming autobiography Dreams That Glitter, serialised in OK! magazine, Cheryl said: “I believe everybody’s different and that some people are meant to be together forever and some aren’t.
“Society has its rules about marriage but I have my own and I’m changing and learning all the time.”
Last week Cheryl appeared on the Jonathan Ross show wearing a new £160,000 square-cut diamond ring.
Ashley is believed to have bought the big sparkler as an anniversary gift, but Cheryl had not worn it in public before.
The sparkler was a replacement for the heart shaped engagement ring which Cheryl removed after learning of his playing away.
Brave beauty Cheryl said that despite her husband’s infidelity she believed her marriage was worth fighting for.
“When I said my wedding vows I meant them. I said them for life - for better, for worse. There’s going to be worse times and better times.
“What’s worth having anyway if it doesn’t take a fight?”
And she says she is determined to let Ashley be “a free spirit” and refuses to become a paranoid wife who keeps her husband under constant surveillance.
She said: “People make mistakes, stuff happens. Ashley’s a free spirit. I’m not his keeper.
“I believe in letting people live their lives and be free, so Ashley can have time with his friends when he wants, he can go out when he wants.
“I’m not Mrs Perfect, I’ve made mistakes, and if I’d never been given a second chance, God know where I’d be now.”
But the fragile star admitted she had been left emotionally scarred by the revelations about Ashley’s cheating.
“I can’t hurt any more than I’ve hurt, I can’t cry anymore than I’ve cried.
“I’ve been to the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, so one day I’m going to find my middle ground and be happy.”
The X Factor judge, who last week wowed fans with her catwalk debut during London Fashion Week, confessed that although she has taken Ashley back, there are still unresolved issues in the relationship.
“I still feel there are things I need to sort out in my head, that some things in my life are a bit up in the air.”
The star, who lost a lot of weight following her recent heartbreak, admitted she had become like a “walking corpse” over a previous relationship breakdown when she was a teenager.
She said: “For two years I was in a really destructive relationship. I’d been clinically depressed and dangerously underweight. I was having terrible panic attacks and suffered from anxiety, and as a result my appetite went.
“Any food used to make my stomach churn. I was 5st 11lb at my worst point, like a walking corpse.”
Dreams That Glitter is published on October 9.
